About the Host Masjid

Masjid Al-Mumin

A masjid of prayer, Islamic education, and brotherhood, clinging to the Qur'an and Sunnah upon the understanding of the Salaf al-Salih, the righteous predecessors of this Ummah.

Our Story

Deep roots in Los Angeles.

Masjid Al-Mumin is one of the earliest masajid established in Los Angeles. The building itself dates back to 1903, originally constructed as a two-story house, and was converted into a masjid in 1980. Since then, it has served as a place of prayer, learning, and community for the Muslims of Los Angeles.

Over the decades, the masjid developed a reputation reaching beyond California through its historical ties to the Gulf region and the leadership of the late Shaykh Abu Mujaahid Fareed Abdullah رحمه الله, who taught here for over twenty years.

That history matters to this Qur'an Competition: the event is not separate from the masjid's mission. It grows directly from decades of prayer, teaching, memorization, and community life within these walls.

A Continuing Legacy

A house became a masjid.

More than a venue, Masjid Al-Mumin has been a home for worship and Islamic learning across generations.

Today

Teaching the next generation.

Masjid Al-Mumin continues its mission under the leadership of Imam Ibn Al-Farooq, a close student and longtime friend of Shaykh Fareed رحمه الله. He served alongside him as Associate Imam and today oversees the Islamic affairs of the masjid, delivers Friday khutbahs, and teaches regular classes for adults and children.

Alongside the daily prayers, the masjid runs a weekend Islamic school, adult classes, community and family events, and ongoing programs intended to benefit the Muslim community.
